The short hike is downhill, but still requires good strength and balance. I think it’s not suitable for a pregnant woman. However the boat ride starts down the bottom st the restaurant, and is perfect for her. Take a spray jacket or similar, if you are sitting at the front of the boat, it gets a bit of splash.

I'm not sure the best way to hike it since I took the boat, but you are hiking around the crater rim and arrive at the same spot so you would have similar elevation differences either way. As far as getting there I'm assuming you are going from Otovala. You would take a bus to one of two towns nearby and from there a taxi is $5 to the crater. You can have him pick you up at a certain time comin back or just snag a taxi dropping someone else off. You could also hitchhike back into town fairly easily if you are comfortable with that.
