Detroit residents are demanding that a coney island restaurant "clean it up or stay shut down" following the restaurant's latest alleged health issue.

DETROIT – It’s been almost two weeks since Detroit’s well-known Lafayette Coney Island closed for a rat infestation. It’s their second shutdown since 2022. Now, the owners are seeing increased pressure from the community. Malik Shabazz, a community activist, is calling for the restaurant to be permanently closed.

The owner of American Coney Island in Detroit says the recent closure of Lafayette Coney Island due to rat infestation impacts their business.

The Detroit Health Department said that Lafayette Coney Island in Downtown Detroit has closed once again to address a rat problem.

Hamm, who had stayed in a downtown Detroit hotel, raved about the city, which he called "very cool" and "super awesome." And he told Fallon, who was familiar with the dueling coney island shops, about eating at Lafayette.
