Audiences just witnessed the emergence of a new big-screen Superman via the release of James Gunn ’s movie of the same name. However, a few years ago, there was a point at which it seemed that Henry Cavill would return to play the Man of Steel.

"He was an absolute gentleman about it. He said, ‘The only thing I ask is that I'm able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys,'" the director added of Cavill's reaction to the news.

Horowitz asked Gunn about how he was able to break the news to Cavill, who portrayed Superman in several films, including 2013’s “Man of Steel” and 2016’s “Batman v Superman,” after he publicly announced in October 2022 that he would be returning as Superman.
