Providence and nurses at its eight Oregon hospitals have reached a tentative agreement after 26 days of strike

Providence hospitals reached a tentative contract agreement with the health system’s leaders late Tuesday, nearing a possible end to a strike that was in its 26th day.

Nurses at Providence Oregon hospitals reached a tentative deal after a 26-day strike, improving working conditions and pay.

An apparent breakthrough in the nearly month-long strike at Providence hospitals was reached Tuesday night as both Providence officials and the Oregon Nurses Association announced a tentative deal at all eight locations affected.

Thousands of workers walked off the job on Friday at all eight Providence hospitals in the state as well as six women’s clinics, including nurses, physicians and advanced practitioners.

Health workers at Providence women’s clinics in the Portland area reached a tentative contract agreement with the health system, the first of the several striking bargaining units to make a deal that could return them to work.

Union members still need to ratify the contract. Voting is set to start Thursday morning and end Friday afternoon.

Providence Women's Clinic and the Oregon Nurses Association agreed to tentative terms on new contracts for nurses and physicians that address compensation and more. Advanced practice providers will receive a 7.5% to 15% pay raise, while most registered nurses are in line for a 4% to 20% raise due to a 25-step wage scale based on experience.
