Well, it now appears that Thomas Feichtmeir, an artist who worked on Blasphemous, actually once pitched an idea to publisher Bandai Namco for a 2D pixel art version of Dark Souls III.
We recently got a sneak peek at something that might have been truly awesome, a screenshot of a Dark Souls 3 2D Metroidvania which was apparently pitched to Bandai Namco, but criminally, was rejected.
Dark Souls 3 came very close to having a 2D metroidvania version, as shown by a pixelart image from a scrapped pitch.
Amazingly, we almost got a 2D Dark Souls game but it sadly never saw the light of day. Come and mourn its demise and see it firsthand here.
