Not every four-panel comic strip is going to use words in every strip, and Calvin and Hobbes has quite a few speechless comics that are excellent.

In other words, Calvin and Hobbes being a little mean to each other is even better proof of their friendship than anything else, as they know that razzing is the key to a lasting friendship.
