The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a season in which they went 14-3 with a backup quarterback in Sam Darnold, and a dominant defense led by their pass rush. In 2025, they return that dominant defense with their franchise quarterback under center after rehabbing from a knee injury in J.J. McCarthy.
The Vikings announced on Friday afternoon that Jefferson had suffered an injury during camp and was expected to miss some time. “Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has announced that WR Justin Jefferson has a mild hamstring strain and he will be held out of practice,” the Vikings announced on X. “Jefferson will be re-evaluated next week.”
J.J. McCarthy has been in the spotlight for the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2025 season. The quarterback, who missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury, is set to lead the team's offense in the upcoming season.

The Minnesota Vikings continue to hold firm with Sam Howell as the backup QB behind J.J. McCarthy, even though Kirk Cousins is available.
Sam Howell and Brett Rypien are ready for the second day of training camp after a tough first day that saw them be apart of big defensive plays.
Minnesota Vikings All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson has officially been ruled out of the team’s training camp practice due to what the team called a “mild” left hamstring strain, and is set to be re-evaluated sometime next week.
With Justin Fields' health concerns with the Jets, former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has emerged as a potential replacement.
