Pacific dogwood thrives under the canopy of California’s mountain forests. When in bloom, flowers hover like lace in the shadows of taller conifers and hardwoods, reaching out for sunlight.
The West Coast has its own version, the Pacific dogwood, or Cornus nuttallii, which lives west of the Rockies, between southern British Columbia and southern California.
Later in the spring take a drive up to Mineral to see the gorgeous Pacific Dogwood in its native habitat. It is well worth the time and effort, and maybe even the current price of gas.
