The California coast has been rocked by seven earthquakes in less than a day, including four in the same city near the San Andreas fault - sparking fears that the 'Big One' could be on the way.

The epicenter for all the quakes was about one mile east of Hayward, in San Francisco’s East Bay, according to the U.S. Geological Survey

A minor, 3.3-magnitude earthquake happened at 11:52 a.m. Pacific time about 1 mile east of Hayward, Calif., data from the agency shows.

A preliminary magnitude 3.7 earthquake rattled the Bay Area on Thursday afternoon after a series of smaller quakes hours before in the same area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The latest shake happened at 1:59 p.m., with an epicenter about 1.2 miles east of Hayward and a depth of about 4.34 miles.
