An 18-foot-deep sinkhole opened up in Ontario, covering an entire intersection and forcing a major street to shut down.

Another sinkhole in Wharton forced the closure of all eastbound lanes on Interstate 80 Monday at Exit 34 for New Jersey Route 15. In December a sinkhole closed I-80 for four days in the same town.

Conditions worsened Monday night at a depression in a center lane of I-80 east in Wharton when it opened up into a sinkhole while Department of Transportation crews were working on it, officials said.
