Tokyo Tower was opened to the public on December 23, 1958. Standing 333 meters high, at the time of building it was the tallest freestanding tower in the world, ahead of the Eiffel Tower.

The Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, seen in 2014 with visible decay, was a pioneering example of Japanese Metabolist design, comprising 140 detachable living pods. It was dismantled in 2022.
