The Justice Department moved to drop charges Wednesday against a man they had alleged to be a “major leader” of the MS-13 gang just weeks after publicly lauding his arrest – a move his lawyer says is the first step towards immediately deporting him to El Salvador.
Henrry Josue Villatoro Santos is seeking to delay the dismissal because he fears the U.S. government would immediately move deport him.
Attorney General Pam Bondi moved to dismiss the charges against Santos who “will now face the removal process,” according to a one-page court brief filed Wednesday evening.
El Salvador says it shares intelligence with the United States about gang members wanted by the Central American nation and provides “complete records” on them before formally requesting their deportation.
