When the NBA All-Star reserves were announced Thursday, Tyrese Maxey’s name wasn’t among them. The view from those outside Philadelphia might not have been perplexed, given the 76ers’ 11th-place standing in a mostly mediocre Eastern Conference.

At no point in the budding career of Tyrese Maxey has he been more consistent, and proof of that came on Saturday night when Maxey scored a game high 31 points in a 109-97 win over the Chicago Bulls. LaVine has been one of the league’s most efficient high-volume scorers and the Bulls have been much better with him on the floor. Two Hawks would be too many, and Jalen Johnson deserves the spot a little more than Trae Young.

Maxey, who has continued to take on a leadership role in Philadelphia, has had to battle through his first real losing experience in the NBA. The Sixers have not had these types of struggles in his first four seasons in the league and he has had to adjust to the losing while also being a leader for this Sixers team amid the injuries.
