May is when tornado activity typically reaches its peak for the year. The Plains and Midwest find themselves in the greatest threat area as tornado counts climb to their highest totals annually.

As of Tuesday morning, the local National Weather Service offices have issued a tornado watch across a large portion of the state.

The tornado was an EF0. Peak winds were 80 to 85 mph. The path was about one-tenth of a mile and 10 yards wide. No one was injured. We're always on the lookout for viewer photos and videos.

A Tornado Warning is in effect until 12:45 p.m. in Plaquemines Parish. Those in the warned area should take shelter immediately. Watch the video player above for live severe weather coverage.

The tornado was on the ground for nine minutes, mostly over water, but touched down in some coves and islands near the lake with peak winds at 90 miles per hour.
