One of the tornadoes, given the rating of EF-2, touched down in the town of Tylertown, MS, wiping out entire neighborhoods. Six people were killed, 29 were injured, and more than 200 were left homeless, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said.
The National Weather Service has confirmed several EF4-strength tornadoes in outbreaks of severe weather this month, the most since 1997.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to smack 12 states in the Midwest and South over the weekend, with some tornadoes possible.
