The commuter flight that crashed on Alaska sea ice last week, killing all 10 aboard, was part of the workhorse network of short-hop flights that people in the immense and rugged state rely on to get to medical appointments,

The 10 Alaskans killed in the crash near Nome include a mentor to new teachers, a school counselor and two Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium employees traveling to service a local water plant.

The passengers were all adults. Several were from the Anchorage area, two were from Unalakleet and the pilot and one passenger were from Nome.
