It seems like Marvel Studios was already pivoting away from Kang the Conqueror after Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania flopped in early 2023.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio had been planning to replace Kang the Conqueror with Doctor Doom in their upcoming projects.

Marvel decided to pivot away from Kang after Majors was sentenced, and announced that Robert Downey Jr. would play Doctor Doom in the Avengers movie that was originally known as The Kang Dynasty.
