Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter has been named a co-recipient of the Big 12 Athlete of the Year award, along with Texas Tech softball player NiJaree Canady. In his two years with the Buffs, Hunter set the college football world on fire with his abilities as a superstar on both sides of the football.

Canady led the Red Raiders with 11 home runs and was the team’s ace on the mound with a 1.19 ERA, 319 strikeouts and 34 wins. In winning the award, Canady becomes the first male or female athlete from Texas Tech to take home the honor.

According to the Big 12 Conference, Canady has been named the Female Athlete of the Year, while Colorado’s Travis Hunter is the recipient of the Male Athlete of the Year award. The Big 12 stated that both are the first honorees from their universities to receive the prestigious award.
