European countries are involved in a plan outlined by the Trump administration this month to purchase weapons from the U.S. that will ultimately go to Ukraine.
The virtual meeting of high-level military officials was led by British Defense Secretary John Healey and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and NATO leader Mark Rutte, as well as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, attended the so-called Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

UK backs Trump's Putin ultimatum with urgent '50-day drive' to strengthen Ukraine's position
The U.K. chaired a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting to discuss rapid transfer of arms including Patriot missiles, as the Britain responds to President Donald Trump's 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In December 2022, President Joseph R. Biden Jr. agreed to give Ukraine a Patriot missile battery, an advanced ground-based air-defense system. Two more followed, along with an unknown number of interceptor missiles that have provided the only effective means of shooting down Russian ballistic missiles.
The UK and Germany lead a NATO meeting to discuss US plans to supply Ukraine with weapons. This comes amidst intensified Russian attacks and a US ultimatum for Russia to agree to a ceasefire. Discussions revolve around providing advanced Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine through NATO allies.
In response, 65 percent of Trump voters backed the provision of arms to Ukraine, almost three times the 22 percent who opposed the move. The results suggest a shift in attitudes among Trump supporters toward aid for Ukraine over the past six months.
