Trump says U.S., Philippines have trade deal after "beautiful visit" with Philippine president
The U.S. and the Philippines have reached a trade deal, President Trump said Tuesday after his Oval Office meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.
President Donald Trump welcomed Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday at the White House, as the two countries are seeking closer security and economic ties in the face of shifting geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific region.
The visit by Marcos was the first official trip by a South East Asian leader to the United States during Trump’s second term.
President Ferdinand Marcos secures a one-percent US tariff cut and defence pledges from US President Donald Trump, but analysts say the deal highlights Manila’s limited leverage and need to diversify.
