James Gunn‘s Superman reboot starring David Corenswet just received some major praise from a former Man of Steel. In 2006, Brandon Routh succeeded Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Superman with Superman Returns serving as a homage sequel to Reeve’s quadrilogy of films.

James Gunn isn’t done talking about the Superman . During a recent interview with Rolling Stone , the filmmaker opened up about his plans for the future of the DC Universe, teasing a “kind-of-but-not-really” sequel,

James Gunn is looking back on the "terrible" experience of telling Henry Cavill he was being replaced as Superman by David Corenswet.

James Gunn says we almost didn't see Superman save a squirrel during one of the film's biggest fight scenes because of poor audience reaction.

“That was really unfortunate,” Gunn continued. “So Peter and I [thought] the right thing to do was to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him. And we sat down and we talked to him. He was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, ‘The only thing I ask is that I’m able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys.'”

"This started out as the worst day of my life, but I actually think it's the best day of my life," Gunn recalled thinking on the day he was fired.

Rather than pushing through projects that aren't ready, it seems the Guardians of the Galaxy director isn't afraid to axe bad scripts. This might be an encouraging sign for fans, especially those who were dissatisfied with the peaks and valleys of DC's previous shared universe.
