Feb 21, 2025 · about 10 years ago i was walking down a creek that runs through our place and came across a big cut limb that had washed down from a previous flood. at the time it looked to me like a cedar elm limb that had been infected with mistletoe. I stuck it into an old horse trailer and forgot about it until the other day.

Aug 10, 2023 · Elm burl with eyes is not common with USA species but can happen. Elm burls are more common in Siberian and Carpathian elms. Maple burls, most species of maple lack "eyes" in their burls. There are basically 2 species in the northwest USA that commonly have burls with "eyes". So again, a supply and demand thing.

Feb 20, 2020 · Zelkova is a non-native that was brought in to offset the huge hole left when Dutch Elm Disease wiped out our native elms. You often see it as a street tree or in a park setting. Several of the varieties have poorly attached branches and are prone to snow and ice damage. Some of these branches simply fail by growing into each other.
